After about a 4 year battle with the FAA regarding my medical certificate I was finally approved with the help of Dr Sugarman and her staff. Though the process was lengthy I was regularly provided updates. Dr Sugarman worked hard to move things along with the FAA and made sure my file was being reviewed. Great experience here and I am thankful for their help in my aviation career.

I can’t thank Dr. Sugerman enough for helping me navigate my neuropsychological evaluation for my FAA Class A medical. I was initially worried that a past diagnosis of ADD and a prescription for Adderall would hurt my chances, but Dr. Sugerman put my mind at ease. She helped me feel confident that I had been misdiagnosed and never needed medication in the first place. The entire process was smooth and straightforward—she clearly communicated what was needed every step of the way. From start to finish, our experience here has been awful. My mom was in a rehab facility and I was the medical contact person for her. My brother received a call from Dr. Sugarman while she was in Switzerland letting him know that we needed to get my mom in asap for testing because she likely has Korsakoff syndrome. There was no ROI for my brother and the information that she shared with him sent him into a panic. Honestly been considering a DOPL complaint due to the breach in confidentiality without an ROI.
Once my mom was released from rehab, we got her set up with the neuropsych eval as recommended by the rehab. It was $3,000. My mom completed the evaluation and then we never heard from them again. It has been over 3 months. After emailing the staff to follow up, we were told that they had forwarded the info to my mom’s PCP (without ever telling us…). Unsure how this was $3,000, especially when there was 0 follow up.
I am a therapist who refers my clients to get neuro psych testing done all the time, and this was by far my least professional experience. All other psychologists I have worked with have the clients come in after they have finished the testing, so that they can explain the results to the person.
Dr. Sugerman and her staff are incredible. I was worried after learning I needed to complete a CogScreen. I called the Steinmann Institute and Dr. Sugerman explained the whole process, reassured me about dealing with the FAA, and squeezed me in before a trip to ensure it was done in a quick and timely manner. I had an incredible experience with Dr. Sugerman. I’m not sure why there are some negative reviews. I had a fairly complex situation with attaining my medical history for my FAA Medical. Dr. Sugerman and staff were exceptional in being communicative and flexible working with my timeline. Dr. Sugerman and her staff are amazing. We were advised by more experienced aviators to get the medical clearance first before our son started his PPL training. Due to medical diagnoses when our son was much younger, we were told he would need testing to get any medical clearance. The process was effective and efficient and after the testing was finished she seemed to have a direct line to the FAA. Within weeks we had the clearance though we were cautioned by other doctors that the process could take months.
